Editorial Policy
At Monday Mortgages, we want our mortgage guides, calculators and other resources to be useful, accurate and easy to understand.
This editorial policy explains how we research, create, review and update the information published on our website.
Why we create mortgage content
Our content is designed to help people understand mortgages, home-buying schemes and the factors that may affect their mortgage options.
We aim to explain complicated subjects in plain English, while recognising that mortgage eligibility and lender decisions depend on individual circumstances.
Our guides are general information rather than personalised mortgage advice. Where appropriate, we'll explain when speaking to a mortgage adviser or another relevant professional may be helpful.
How we research our content
We prioritise authoritative and primary sources when researching factual information.
Depending on the subject, these may include:
- GOV.UK and relevant government departments
- HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
- The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
- Official scheme administrators and public bodies
- Mortgage lender criteria and intermediary guidance
- Credit reference agencies
- Other organisations responsible for the rules, data or guidance being discussed
Where possible, important figures, rules, eligibility requirements and scheme details are checked against the organisation responsible for them rather than relying solely on third-party summaries.
We may link directly to these sources where doing so helps readers verify information or find further official guidance.
How we handle mortgage lender criteria
Mortgage criteria can vary significantly between lenders and can change over time.
A lender's approach to income, employment, credit history, deposits, property types and other circumstances shouldn't be treated as a rule that applies across the whole mortgage market.
When discussing lender criteria, we therefore try to make clear where:
- requirements differ between lenders;
- an example reflects the approach of particular lenders rather than the whole market;
- criteria may change; or
- an application would need to be assessed based on the borrower's individual circumstances.
Where appropriate, we refer to current lender criteria or guidance when researching these subjects.
How our content is reviewed
Mortgage content is checked internally before publication.
This includes reviewing information for factual accuracy, clarity and consistency with the sources used during research.
Particular attention is given to information that could materially affect a reader's understanding of their mortgage options, including eligibility rules, financial thresholds, scheme requirements and lender criteria.
Review doesn't mean that the information will apply to every borrower. Mortgage products and lending decisions depend on individual circumstances and the criteria available at the time of application.
Keeping our content up to date
Mortgage rules, government schemes, tax thresholds and lender criteria can change.
We therefore review existing content when appropriate, including when:
- relevant government rules or guidance change;
- a mortgage or housing scheme changes;
- important figures or thresholds are updated;
- lender criteria materially change;
- we identify information that could be clearer or more accurate; or
- an article reaches an appropriate point for periodic review.
Where a page displays a Last reviewed date, this means the content has been checked for continued accuracy and relevance on or around that date.
We don't change review dates simply to make older content appear more recent. A review date is updated when the page has genuinely been reassessed.
Corrections
We want to correct inaccurate or outdated information when we find it.
If you believe something on the Monday Mortgages website is incorrect, unclear or out of date, please contact us at hello@mondaymortgages.co.uk with a link to the relevant page and details of the issue.
We'll review the information and make corrections where necessary.
Use of AI-assisted tools
We may use AI-assisted tools as part of our content workflow, including to support research, planning, structuring and drafting.
AI-generated information isn't treated as an authoritative source.
Mortgage information is checked against relevant sources and reviewed internally before publication. Responsibility for the content published on the Monday Mortgages website remains with Monday Mortgages, regardless of whether AI-assisted tools were used during its creation.
Our approach to clarity
Mortgages can be complicated, but mortgage content doesn't need to be unnecessarily difficult to read.
We aim to:
- explain technical terminology where it matters;
- distinguish between general rules and lender-specific criteria;
- avoid presenting estimates or examples as guarantees;
- make important limitations and exceptions clear; and
- give readers enough context to understand when their own circumstances may produce a different outcome.
If a subject can't be answered accurately with a simple yes or no, we'll try to explain the factors that determine the answer rather than oversimplifying it.
