Past credit issues? We can help
A less-than-perfect credit history doesn't have to stop you getting a mortgage. We work with specialist lenders who take a more understanding approach to past financial difficulties.
"A bad credit score doesn't mean a closed door — it means the right lender matters more than ever."
County Court Judgments — many specialist lenders consider applications, especially when satisfied.
Size, age and whether the default is settled all affect which lenders will look at your case.
The most common credit issue we see — lenders are often willing to look beyond historic blips.
CCJs can remain on your credit file for six years, but many specialist lenders will still consider your application — especially if the CCJ has been satisfied and some time has passed. The amount, date, and whether it's been paid all matter. We'll find lenders whose criteria match your specific situation.
A default on your credit file shows a missed payment that wasn't resolved. Similar to CCJs, the size of the default, how long ago it was registered, and whether it's been settled all affect your options. We have access to lenders who regularly help people with defaults on their record.
Late or missed payments are one of the most common credit issues we see. Whether it's a missed credit card payment or a late utility bill, we'll assess the full picture and find lenders who are willing to look beyond minor credit blips — particularly if they're historic.
If you're currently in or have completed a debt management plan (DMP), there are lenders who will consider your application. Being transparent about your history and showing that you've taken steps to manage your finances responsibly can work in your favour.
How long issues stay on file
Most credit issues drop off your file after six years — but timing matters long before then.
A credit issue from five years ago is viewed very differently to one from five months ago. The more time that has passed and the more evidence of responsible financial behaviour since, the better your options.
Use automated credit scoring. Any recent adverse marker is often an instant decline, regardless of context or how your finances look today.
